I'm a bit behind on this, it happens when you have an snow-pocalypse on top of an ice-pocalypse and are without hot water for FIVE DAYS!!! There was lots of local press coverage from local non-vegan foodies so now for a vegan perspective!
On Saturday January 29, 2011 a fine group of folks joined Steven Doyle and James Scott of Dallas Vegan for the Dallas Vegan Bus Tour! We started the day at 11am in Deep Ellum at the Anvil Pub, they have several vegan options. I started my day with a beer and these:
Loaded cheese fries made their Va-Va-Vegan Chili!!!
These were both awesome and I will definitely be back soon to have a second and third helping... I did share the Loaded Fries with a friend thankfully!
I think i teared up a bit when the menu said they do not charge extra for the vegan substitutions!!!!!!!!
When we were done with Anvil Pub our chariot awaited:
and we traveled with lots of "hydration":
and a stripper pole & a disco ball! WIN!!!
Our second stop was Sol's Nieto Mexican Grill for a vegan tex-mex buffet!!!
Sorry I really can't tell you exactly what was on the buffet since I was still in a daze from the freaking awesome chili cheese fries! But whatever was served was really good, I have been to this place before and I LOVE the spinach enchiladas with cheddar Daiya!
We re-boarded the party bus and we were off to Bliss, this place has a special place in my heart from their first location because the raw food movement was a big stepping stone on my path to veganism! :) The new location is beautiful!
We were served wonderful drinks, the only one I tasted was the Gogi Paradise and it was paradise, I feel like it helped me wake up and get through the day!
I am not sure what this is, it's on the regular menu but I snapped a pic when I was leaving the restroom!
The wonderful sampler platter we were served consisted of raw pad thai, raw margherita pizza (someone please correct me if i spelled that wrong) and two raw vegan sushi rolls.
Bliss was sooo awesome, they were so busy when we showed up that there was no way we could be seated inside so we were served outside on the sidewalk! We didn't mind, the food was great!
Next stop, SPIRAL DINER, I have told my vegan friends lately that I feel like a bad vegan because I have never been... I will be there more often I promise!!!
They served us an awesome spread of three sandwiches:
1. Chopped BBQ San'ich:
2. "Meat"ball Sub:
3. "The Mitch" Tofu Club:
HOLY CRAP these were all soooooo good!!! "The Mitch" is a MUST TRY!!!
as usual we cleared the table...
and Eddie with http://www.mercyforanimals.org/, with the few leftovers we didn't get to! :)
Next stop: Zen Sushi in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas. They rolled out their vegetarian menu on February 1, 2011. We got a wonderful preview of what was coming... and the veg menu is around 80% vegan!!!
Unbelievably the food was even more beautiful than the restaurant and the just kept bringing out more!
The pot-stickers and the skewers were by far my fav, but I went back for seconds and still cleaned my plate!
The last stop on the tour was a new pizza place that was not even open yet, the oven was functional and they were eager to feed us vegan pizza!!! They are not a strictly vegan restaurant but have lots of vegan options! Il Cane Rosso the oven was beautiful and so was the pizza and the focaccia!
Gotta have a group pic of all the participants of the debauchery!
I did not eat for a full 24-hours after this tour ended, I was quite literally in a food coma, so don't be scared to come to Dallas, the vegan options are growing every day!!!
